Care & Restoration Policy

At Fabteriors, we believe furniture should be made to last — and cared for throughout its life.

Our Care & Restoration Programme is designed to help customers maintain, repair and restore their Fabteriors furniture so that it can continue to be used for years to come.

Because our furniture uses natural materials and handcrafted techniques, appropriate care and periodic restoration can help preserve both its functionality and character.

This policy explains the scope of the programme, the types of services that may be available and the process for requesting restoration.

1. What is Care & Restoration?

Care & Restoration is a service through which Fabteriors may assess and undertake maintenance, repair or restoration work on eligible furniture.

Depending on the condition of the furniture, services may include:

·        Cleaning and surface care

·        Polishing

·        Refinishing

·        Minor repairs

·        Structural repairs

·        Replacement of damaged components

·        Hardware replacement

·        Restoration of finishes

·        Repair of scratches and surface damage

·        Restoration of older Fabteriors pieces

·        Other suitable restoration work

The exact service will depend on the condition and construction of the individual piece.

2. Why Restoration Matters

Furniture is not necessarily meant to be replaced when it begins to show signs of age.

Natural wood develops character over time, while finishes and surfaces may require periodic attention.

Restoration can help:

·        Extend the useful life of furniture;

·        Preserve valuable natural materials;

·        Reduce unnecessary disposal;

·        Maintain structural integrity;

·        Refresh the appearance of older pieces; and

·        Give well-made furniture a second life.

Where practical, Fabteriors may recommend restoration rather than replacement.

3. Eligibility

Care & Restoration may be available only for:

·        Genuine Fabteriors furniture;

·        Older Fabteriors pieces; and

·        Furniture purchased through Fabteriors or an authorised Fabteriors channel.

Fabteriors does not provide repair, restoration or Care & Restoration services for furniture or products that were not originally purchased from Fabteriors or through an authorised Fabteriors channel.

Submitting a restoration request does not guarantee that Fabteriors will accept the product for restoration.

Each eligible Fabteriors piece is assessed individually by our expert team.

4. Furniture Purchased from Elsewhere

Fabteriors does not accept furniture purchased from other manufacturers, brands, dealers or unrelated third parties for repair, restoration or Care & Restoration.

Where a product cannot reasonably be verified as a Fabteriors product, Fabteriors may decline the request.

This restriction does not affect any mandatory rights or remedies that a customer may have under applicable law.

5. Types of Restoration

The appropriate restoration approach will depend on the condition of the furniture.

Surface & Finish Restoration

May include:

·        Cleaning;

·        Polishing;

·        Surface preparation;

·        Refinishing;

·        Recoating; and

·        Treatment of minor surface imperfections.

Structural Restoration

May include:

·        Repairing joints;

·        Reinforcing weakened areas;

·        Repairing cracks;

·        Replacing damaged structural components; and

·        Other appropriate woodworking repairs.

Component Restoration

Where possible, damaged or missing components may be repaired or replaced.

This may include:

·        Handles;

·        Hardware;

·        Legs;

·        Panels;

·        Shelves;

·        Other furniture components.

Cosmetic Restoration

Depending on the furniture, this may include addressing:

·        Scratches;

·        Minor dents;

·        Surface marks;

·        Finish deterioration; and

·        Other cosmetic issues.

6. Natural Wood & Ageing

Fabteriors uses real wood and handcrafted techniques.

Over time, natural wood may naturally change in:

·        Colour;

·        Tone;

·        Grain appearance;

·        Texture; and

·        Surface character.

These changes are a natural part of the life of real wood.

Restoration is intended to improve the condition and usability of the furniture; it does not necessarily return natural wood to its original factory appearance.

In some cases, retaining signs of age and character may be preferable to completely refinishing the piece.

7. Assessment Before Restoration

Before any restoration work begins, Fabteriors through our experts may require an assessment of the furniture.

The assessment may consider:

·        Structural condition;

·        Material;

·        Age;

·        Finish;

·        Extent of damage;

·        Previous repairs;

·        Modifications;

·        Restoration requirements;

·        Availability of materials;

·        Estimated labour;

·        Transportation requirements.

Customers may be asked to provide photographs and videos before an assessment is arranged.

For more complex restoration work, a physical inspection may be necessary by our team.

8. Restoration Quote

After assessment, Fabteriors may provide an estimate or quotation covering the proposed restoration work.

The quotation may include:

·        Scope of work;

·        Materials;

·        Labour;

·        Replacement components;

·        Transportation or collection;

·        Applicable taxes; and

·        Estimated completion timeline.

All restoration work will begin only after the customer has approved the applicable quotation alongwith a confirmation and made the required payment.

Approval alone does not authorise commencement of work where payment is pending.

9. Additional Work

During restoration, previously hidden damage or structural issues may become apparent.

If additional work is required beyond the originally agreed scope, Fabteriors will communicate the issue to the customer where reasonably possible as and when it comes to the knowledge.

Additional work will not ordinarily be undertaken without customer approval where it results in an additional charge.

10. Restoration Timeline

Restoration timelines vary depending on:

·        Complexity of the work;

·        Availability of materials;

·        Availability of replacement components;

·        Workshop capacity;

·        Extent of damage; and

·        Transportation requirements.

Fabteriors will provide an estimated completion timeline where possible.

The estimated timeline is not a guaranteed completion date unless expressly confirmed otherwise.

11. Transportation & Collection

Where transportation is required, Fabteriors will communicate the applicable arrangements before the restoration work begins.

Depending on the service and location:

·        Fabteriors may arrange collection;

·        A third-party logistics provider may be used; or

·        The customer may be required to arrange or bring the furniture to an agreed location.

Any shipping, transportation, collection, return or delivery charges incurred in connection with Care & Restoration will be borne by the customer.

The customer is responsible for ensuring that the furniture is safely accessible for collection or handover.

Before shipping or handing over the furniture for restoration, the customer must provide clear and detailed photographs and videos of the complete product and the areas requiring attention. These photographs and videos  may be used by Fabteriors to assess the condition of the furniture before transportation as well as upon delivery.

12. Customer Responsibility

Before handing furniture over for restoration, customers should remove:

·        Personal belongings;

·        Decorative items;

·        Loose accessories;

·        Contents stored inside the furniture; and

·        Any items not intended to be restored.

Fabteriors is not responsible for personal belongings left inside or attached to furniture submitted for restoration.

Customers should also disclose any known:

·        Previous repairs;

·        Structural issues;

·        Modifications;

·        Water damage;

·        Pest infestation; or

·        Other significant problems.

This information helps Fabteriors determine the appropriate restoration approach.

13. Limitations of Restoration

Restoration cannot always return furniture to its original condition.

The final result may depend on:

·        Existing damage;

·        Age of the furniture;

·        Original construction;

·        Previous repairs;

·        Material availability;

·        Natural characteristics of the wood;

·        Extent of deterioration; and

·        Feasibility of the proposed restoration.

Fabteriors will make reasonable efforts to achieve the agreed restoration outcome but cannot guarantee that every historical mark, variation or imperfection can be removed.

14. Replacement Materials

Where original materials or components are unavailable, Fabteriors may recommend suitable alternatives.

Replacement materials may differ slightly in:

·        Colour;

·        Grain;

·        Texture;

·        Finish;

·        Hardware design; or

·        Appearance.

Where a material substitution materially affects the agreed restoration, Fabteriors will communicate this to the customer before proceeding.

15. Structural Damage

Where furniture has significant structural damage, Fabteriors will assess whether restoration is technically feasible.

If the furniture cannot be safely restored to a suitable standard, Fabteriors may decline the restoration request.

In such cases, Fabteriors may, where appropriate, suggest:

·        Partial restoration;

·        Component replacement;

·        Repurposing;

·        Alternative restoration methods; or

·        Other available options.

16. Water, Moisture & Pest Damage

Furniture affected by:

·        Excessive moisture;

·        Water exposure;

·        Mould;

·        Termites;

·        Wood-boring insects; or

·        Other biological deterioration

may require specialist assessment.

Fabteriors may decline restoration where the furniture presents an active infestation, poses a health or safety concern or cannot reasonably be restored.

Where restoration is possible, any required treatment will be separately assessed and may involve additional charges.

17. Unauthorised Modifications

Furniture that has been substantially modified, altered or repaired by another party may require additional assessment.

Previous modifications may affect:

·        Structural integrity;

·        Restoration feasibility;

·        Appearance;

·        Cost; and

·        Expected restoration outcome.

Fabteriors may decline restoration where previous modifications make the work unsafe or impractical.

18. Restoration Charges

Care & Restoration is generally a chargeable service, unless the work is covered by an applicable warranty or another Fabteriors commitment.

The final cost may depend on:

·        Type of repair;

·        Materials required;

·        Labour;

·        Replacement components;

·        Transportation;

·        Complexity;

·        Restoration time; and

·        Condition of the furniture.

Customers will be informed of applicable charges before significant restoration work begins.

19. Warranty & Restoration

Care & Restoration is separate from Fabteriors' product warranty.

Where a defect is covered by an applicable warranty, the customer should contact Fabteriors before independently arranging repairs.

Unauthorised repairs, modifications or restoration may affect warranty coverage where permitted under the applicable warranty terms.

20. Customer Approval

Before restoration work begins, Fabteriors may provide the customer with:

·        Proposed scope of work;

·        Estimated cost;

·        Estimated timeline;

·        Relevant limitations; and

·        Other important conditions.

The customer may approve or decline the proposed restoration.

All restoration work will begin only after the customer has approved the proposed service and paid the applicable charges in full or as otherwise specified by Fabteriors.

Once restoration has commenced, cancellation may not be possible where materials have been purchased, work has begun or the furniture has been materially dismantled, subject to applicable law.

21. Care Recommendations After Restoration

After restoration, Fabteriors may provide recommendations regarding:

·        Cleaning;

·        Polishing;

·        Placement;

·        Moisture exposure;

·        Sunlight;

·        Temperature;

·        Handling; and

·        General maintenance.

Following these recommendations can help extend the life of the restored furniture.

Customers should refer to the relevant product-specific care instructions where provided.

22. Restoration of Furniture for Buy-Back

Furniture submitted through the Fabteriors Buy-Back Programme may be restored by Fabteriors after acquisition.

In such cases, the restoration work is part of Fabteriors' internal process and is separate from the customer-facing Care & Restoration service.

The condition and restoration requirements of a product may also be considered when determining its buy-back valuation.

23. Restoration Does Not Guarantee Future Condition

Restoration improves the condition of furniture at the time the work is completed.

It does not guarantee that the furniture will remain free from:

·        Normal wear;

·        Scratches;

·        Finish deterioration;

·        Natural ageing;

·        Damage caused by misuse; or

·        Environmental deterioration.

Proper care and maintenance remain the customer's responsibility after restoration.

24. Refusal of Service

Fabteriors may decline a restoration request where:

·        Restoration is technically unsafe;

·        The product is beyond reasonable restoration;

·        Required materials cannot be sourced;

·        Restoration would not provide a satisfactory outcome;

·        The furniture poses a health or safety concern;

·        There is an active pest infestation;

·        The product has been substantially modified;

·        The requested work is outside Fabteriors' capabilities; or

·        Workshop capacity does not permit the work.
